About the CCICL

Cultivating connections, inspiring innovation

Our mission

The mission of the Canada-Lebanon Chamber of Commerce and Industry is to mobilize business people in Canada and Lebanon and encourage the development of opportunities in both countries.

Relying on the business acumen of Lebanese Canadians, the CCICL encourages economic contributions to Canadian society and caters to businesses and businesspeople involved in trade and investment.

The Canada-Lebanon Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCICL) is a bilateral, non-profit organization in the private business sector. Its statutes and regulations provide for the equal treatment of the interests of Canada and those of Lebanon.

A word from the president

The Canada-Lebanon Chamber of Commerce and Industry aims to bring together Canadian and Lebanese entrepreneurs while promoting economic development between the two countries.

Dear Members, Partners, and Friends of the CCICL,

It is with deep gratitude that I address these words to you. Your commitment to the CCICL is a cornerstone of our mission: strengthening economic ties between Canada and Lebanon.

Since its inception, the CCICL has played a vital role as a bridge between our two countries, fostering business growth and development.

Our flagship events – the annual Cedar and Maple Gala, the golf tournament, and our high-level economic forums – are designed to create business opportunities and facilitate meaningful connections among our members. Thanks to your dedication, we have brought ambitious projects to life and launched impactful initiatives, such as our mentorship program, which provides hands-on support to entrepreneurs navigating today’s challenges. Your support is essential to the success of these initiatives.

More than just a business network, the CCICL is your partner. We are committed to providing a dynamic platform for collaboration and exchange, creating networking opportunities that strengthen our business community. At the same time, we remain attuned to market trends, always seeking new avenues for growth and innovation.

As President, I remain steadfast in my commitment to ensuring that the CCICL remains a strategic partner for both emerging and established businesses, supporting your growth and the success of your ventures.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I sincerely thank you for your trust and commitment. It is through your support that the CCICL continues to fulfill its mission and contribute to a more prosperous future for our business community.

Cordially,

Bassam Touchan, MBA, CPA, CIM, Pl. fin.
President
Chambre de Commerce et d’Industrie Canada-Liban

History

1987-88

Originally, the CCICL was an offshoot of the ULCM (Union Libanaise Comité de Montréal), chaired in 1987-88 by Dr. Copti with a view to creating a Lebanese economic institution in Montreal. It filled a void in the local community because, although several groups had already been formed by Lebanese immigrants in Canada focusing on culture, politics, or aid to the poor, none had yet concentrated its activities on industry and commerce. The CCICL, a non-profit, private-sector organization, was therefore intended to serve the economic interests of both Lebanon and Canada.

1989

It was on the initiative of Messrs. Boutros Gemayel, Georges Homsi, and Georges Karam, three Canadian businessmen of Lebanese origin, founded the Canada-Lebanon Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 1989.

1990

After the legal procedures had been undertaken and finalized, on Monday, December 3, 1990, at 2263 Pierre Laporte School, Town of Mount Royal in Montreal, twenty enthusiastic and committed volunteers, both women and men, braved the first snowstorm of the year to form the Chamber’s first board of directors.

Since 1990

Since its inception, the CCICL has stated its goal of bringing together Canadian businesswomen and businessmen of Lebanese origin, regardless of religious affiliation or political views, to work together to encourage and develop economic and trade relations between the two countries.

The CCICL quickly set up an ambitious program: seminars and networking talks, welcoming Lebanese delegations and businesspeople, organizing economic missions and delegations to Lebanon and Canada, an annual gala with awards for deserving individuals, golf, etc.

Although the CCICL retains complete autonomy in organizing and managing these events, it is a privileged partner of the Consulate General of Lebanon in Montreal, with which it maintains excellent working relations and information sharing.

The Canada-Lebanon Chamber of Commerce and Industry continues to pursue this goal of economic cooperation between Lebanon and Canada and, through its board of directors and president, is fully committed to following the guidelines set out by its founding members.
